Now, we are going to work on our fist sounds on the clarinet. For this, we will only be using the mouthpiece and the barrel. The reason for this is so that you do not have to worry about anything else but creating a beautiful first sound.
- Take a breath out of the corners of your mouth and then blow the air out. Do not use any pressure in your mouth. When blowing, think about saying “hoo” (don’t actually say it, just think like you are saying it.)
- Aim your air across the room to the wall. The air should be going across the tip of the mouthpiece, not down.
- Gradually increase the pressure in your bottom lip until you start to hear a sound.
- The sound that you should hear should sound like this. (Concert F#).
